Ask

Difficult questions about physical, everyday problems. Roughly twenty a day, written down whether or not they're any good.

Every question is scored against six criteria before a line of code exists. Most stop here, on purpose.

Prototype

The survivors get a working prototype in under ninety days. Built to be tested, not demonstrated.

Pilot

Real operators, real materials, real weeks. The prototype either earns its place or it teaches us why it can't.

Only the ones that pass the Decision Gate spin out as standalone companies. Quinn Labs retains ownership.

Before anything is built

Don't build twenty. Score twenty.

Around twenty questions arrive a day. Each is scored one to five against six criteria. Only the top few move forward, and the discipline is in what gets dropped.

The Decision Gate

Five questions every experiment must pass before it becomes a company.

  5. 05Would we still care about this in ten years?

Five yeses and it becomes a company. Anything less and it stays as research, which is a legitimate outcome rather than a failure.

We're not trying to prove that any single idea is right. We're trying to prove the process is: question, prototype, pilot, company — repeatedly, in public, with the evidence attached.
