Project Animal
IdeaWelfare · Conservation · SensingCan we better understand how other species experience the world?
Why
Not to make gadgets.
- To improve welfare.
- To improve conservation.
- To understand life itself.
What we know so far
- Cats see colour differently, hear far above our range, read movement exceptionally well and lead with smell.
- Sensing an animal's environment is possible. Translating it into something a human can genuinely feel is not.
- Welfare decisions are still made from behaviour we interpret, not from experience we can share.
- The honest first step is measurement: what does the animal actually detect, and when does it matter to its wellbeing?
HonestyNobody knows exactly what an animal experiences, and no prototype will settle that. The useful version of this question is narrower: can better sensing improve the decisions we make on their behalf?
