What would an electric van look like if it were defined by the people who operate one every day?
Most electric vans are described by range figures and screen sizes. Operators describe their vehicles by loading height, door swing, kerbside access, tyre wear, where the charger is and whether a part can be replaced without a main dealer.
This study starts from the second list.
What the study examines
Payload
Usable payload after the real body, racking, tools and two people, not the homologated maximum.
Range
Range on a loaded winter day with the heater on, expressed as a working shift rather than a laboratory cycle.
Charging
Charging that fits the depot, the kerb and the unplanned second job, including how long a driver actually stands still.
Accessibility
Step height, door aperture, reach into the load space and how many times a driver enters the vehicle in a day.
Repairability
Panels, lighting, sensors and wear items that can be replaced locally, with published parts and honest costs.
Driver needs
Seat, storage, visibility, noise, temperature and the small indignities that accumulate across ten hours.

Open questions
- How much range is genuinely needed once charging is designed around the shift?

- Can a fleet specify a vehicle collectively and be taken seriously by a manufacturer?
